Golfers were able to tee off and complete 18-holes of golf at the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce (GGCC) 28th Annual Business Golf Classic despite the forecast of “Hurricane Florence” in the midst.

Over 75 players, teed off at Worthington Manor Golf Club, 8329 Fingerboard Road, Urbana, Maryland on Friday, September 14.

“Planning a golf outing with the threat of a hurricane looming is not for the faint-hearted. But we stuck with the plan, the weather was on our side and had a great day”, said Marilyn Balcombe, GGCC Executive Director.

The chamber’s tournament affords golfers the opportunity to grow their business and play golf at the same time. This tournament is intended to offer enjoyable golf and the opportunity to network.

Tournament participants enjoyed a variety of competitions in addition to 18 holes of scramble golf. Tournament play activities included a “Putt-A-Rama” contest sponsored by Therrien Waddell, Inc.; longest drive men contest was sponsored by Rehab 2 Perform; closest to the pin men competition was sponsored by Old Line Bank, a beat the pro contest sponsored by DeLeon & Stang, CPAs & Advisors; and a hole-in-one competition presented by DARCARS. Participants attempted to get a hole-in-one to win a 2019 Toyota Corolla LE.

A portion of the proceeds supports the Chamber’s Montgomery College Scholarship Fund. Our local economy relies on an educated workforce. The Chamber funds scholarships annually and has established an endowment for future giving. We are committed to workforce development and investing in Montgomery College students.
