Gaithersburg Employees Receive Awards (Photos)

At the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council meeting on Monday, November 19, 2012, Public Works Lead Maintenance Worker Al Guzman, Police Department Crime Analyst Elena Ingram, and the Leisure Times Redesign Team were presented with Employee and Team Awards for the third quarter of calendar year 2012.

Made up of peers from each department, an Employee Recognition Committee reviews nominations for individuals and teams on a quarterly basis. Guidelines provide for a maximum of one individual and one team award in each quarter with the exception of a tie. Quarterly winners are then eligible for the annual Employee and Team of the Year Awards.

Al Guzman, Lead Maintenance Worker for the Public Works Department, was named Employee of the Third Quarter for continually going above and beyond his job duties and providing ongoing contributions to the department. Al volunteered to become the CDL Trainer for Public Works and has maintained that responsibility over the years, saving the City thousands of dollars in training fees. He was recognized for staying abreast of applicable laws and guidelines and going the extra step of accompanying trainees to the MVA. This, coupled with his desire to assist new employees in obtaining their CDL license within their first year of employment, has ensured the success of his trainees and the City’s compliance with mandatory requirements. His coworkers see him as an essential asset to the department and recognize the difficult task he performs.

Elena Ingram, Crime Analyst for the Police Department, was also named Employee of the Third Quarter for her hard work, dedication and willingness to assist others. Her personality and good attitude bring together department teams, thus ensuring their success. Elena was recognized for being the first to volunteer to help other employees and to take on special projects. In addition to performing her regular job duties, Elena holds the position of City Liaison for the Gaithersburg Police Foundation (GPF). The GPF raises funds to support the Police Department in its efforts to carry forth the Department’s core mission and values, and Elena was recognized for helping the Foundation succeed by assisting with meetings and fundraisers.

The Leisure Times Redesign Team comprised of Maria Fullerton from Community and Public Relations and Terrilyn Lahs, Jennifer Mogus, Denise Mornini, April Outman from the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, were named the Team of the Second Quarter for their quarterly publication of the Fall Leisure Times. The team undertook the redesign of the Leisure Times, the City’s guide to recreation classes and City amenities, after a new vendor provided the opportunity to produce a full color publication. The team had to ensure that information was organized in a logical manner, that it was easy for the consumer to navigate, that the design was attractive and inviting – all within a very tight deadline. The team streamlined and reorganized the information and created general thematic sections to help readers easily find listings based on areas of interest. The adept use of color, graphics and original photos enhanced the publication, resulting in positive feedback from residents.
