Gaithersburg Employee Awards

At the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, Recreation Program Supervisor Maura Dinwiddie and the Facilities Maintenance Team were presented with Employee and Team Awards for the second quarter of calendar year 2012.

Made up of peers from each department, an Employee Recognition Committee reviews nominations for individuals and teams on a quarterly basis. Guidelines provide for a maximum of two individual and two team awards in each quarter. Quarterly winners are entered into nomination for the annual Employee and Team of the Year Awards.

Maura Dinwiddie, Recreation Program Supervisor for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, received the award for her professionalism, personality and work ethic. She works with the Community Services Division on many occasions as the Youth Opportunities Coalition coordinator, and her professionalism with partners and stakeholders through this Coalition is exceptional, fostering solid and productive work relationships both internally and externally. She coordinates service projects and educational events for members of the Gaithersburg Student Union and Forever Sisters, serving as a mentor to high school students and providing service and opportunities to them in a caring, fun, professional, structured, and productive manner. She has the rare gift of balancing her role as caretaker and staff person with enthusiasm and affection, fostering close and positive relationships with the program participants. Maura was recognized as a wonderful representative of City staff, a collaborative and effective community partner and, most importantly, a strong influence on the youth of Gaithersburg.

The Facilities Maintenance Team comprised of Justin Storm, Rob Barclay, Alberto Aguilar-Solano, and Kerry Bodmer from the Department of Public Works, was named the Team of the Second Quarter for the quality customer service they deliver on a daily basis. The unit is small in relation to the overall work requirements, increasing the difficulty of its responsiveness. Yet the team, led by Justin Storm, exceeds expectations on a regular basis by working very closely together, by complementing each other’s skill sets, and by communicating effectively with customers. The team demonstrated its fine work on numerous occasions over the past few months, including opening the Water Park and Miniature Golf Course and helping to prepare the Senior Center for an important HUD inspection, all while being responsive to daily requests with a positive “get it done” attitude.
