Gaithersburg City Manager Resigns

Gaithersburg City Manager Angel Jones has resigned from employment with the city effective June 15 to pursue other opportunities. Jones had been employed as Gaithersburg’s top manager since September of 2008.

“Angel has led the city staff for the past three and a half years,” said Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz in a press release. “She is resigning to pursue other career opportunities.”

“It has been rewarding to serve the citizens of Gaithersburg and to work with so many talented and dedicated employees to implement the city’s strategic goals and objectives,” Jones said in the same release. “During my tenure much has been accomplished and, due to my guidance, I leave the city in a strong financial position.”

“Under Angel’s leadership, the city has weathered a significant economic downturn. She has focused on bringing the city through these tough financial times in excellent condition and has brought and implemented new ideas to the budget and strategic planning process,” said Katz.

The release lists several of Jones’ accomplishments including the management of significant development projects, including Hidden Creek, Archstone, Crown Farm and Spectrum, and capital projects such as the renovation of the Aquatic Center at Bohrer Park.

The Mayor and Council have named Deputy City Manager Tony Tomasello to serve as the Acting City Manager in her absence and a search for a permanent replacement is expected to begin shortly.
