Gaithersburg Celebrates Green Practices

As part of Gaithersburg Green Week, the city of Gaithersburg presented Environmental Awards to individuals and organizations demonstrating outstanding environmental stewardship in the Gaithersburg community, with the goal of inspiring others to pursue similar efforts. The awards were presented by Mayor Sidney Katz and members of the City Council at a ceremony held April 2 at City Hall.

The Environmental Affairs Committee selected ten award winners and two certificate of recognition recipients, including businesses, nonprofit and faith-based organizations, schools and youth organizations. Collectively, the winners are growing Gaithersburg’s local green economy, improving their business models by incorporating sustainability, working within their neighborhoods to go green, and inspiring a new green generation. The winners include Gaithersburg Middle School Horticultural Program, Gaithersburg High School ESOL Student Service Learning (SSL) Club, Kentlands Community Foundation “GO GREEN Group”, Muddy Branch Alliance, Woodland Hills Homeowners Association, Asbury Methodist Village, Fitzgerald Auto Malls, PRIZIM, Inc., Eco-Action Team at St. Rose of Lima, and Zosimos Botanicals.

Two certificates of appreciation were presented to Kentlands Whole Foods Market and Kentlands Stadium 10 Theaters.
