Franklin School Celebrates Chinese New Year (Photos)

On Friday, Feb. 15, 265 children ages three through six at The Franklin Schools in Rockville enjoyed a Chinese New Year celebration organized by Franklin families and performed by parents and children. A fashion show of traditional Chinese clothing from different regions opened the colorful presentation replete with an exciting lion dance performed to the beat from a large red Chinese drum. Children dressed in traditional clothing demonstrated Wushu martial arts, a parent played the Chinese string instrument, GuZheng, and poems and songs in Mandarin rounded out the morning of happy wishes for the Year of the Snake.
