Fourteen MCPS Students Selected As Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalists
Fourteen Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students have been named as semifinalists for the 2016 Intel Science Talent Search.
The semifinalists are from four MCPS high schools; Montgomery Blair, Winston Churchill, Poolesville, and Quince Orchard.
According to a news release, MCPS students account for, “all but four of the 18 semifinalists in the state of Maryland.” 300 students are selected as semifinalists nationwide, and are chosen from a pool of approximately 1,800 entries.
“Our students continue to excel in the Intel Science Talent Search by demonstrating a strong commitment to advanced science and math,” Interim Superintendent of Schools Larry Bowers said. “Congratulations to our semifinalists, their families and the outstanding schools and educators that are supporting them,” Bowers said.
Montgomery Blair High School student, Michael Winer, won the First Place Meal of Distinction for Innovation in last year’s competition and was awarded $150,000.
40 national finalists will be selected on Jan. 20 and will compete March 10 to 16 in a Washington, DC for $1 million in awards.
