Four Smithsonian Museums Open Friday
Four more Smithsonian Museums opened Friday. The National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall; the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, both located at Eighth and G Streets N.W.; and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum near the White House are open but with reduced days and hours of operation.
Visitors will need a free timed-entry pass for all but the Renwick Gallery. Those six years and older must wear face coverings. Masks are recommended for those two years and older.
Museum cafes and retail shops will not be open. All onsite tours and events remain suspended.
The new hours and days are:
- National Museum of African American History and Culture – Wednesday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum – Wednesday to Sunday 11:30 a.m.to 7 p.m. Visitors must enter and exit through the G Street entrance.
- Renwick Gallery: Wednesday to Sunday 10 a.m.to 5:30 p.m.
Visitors can reserve passes online or by phone at 1-800-514-3849, ext. 1. Each person can reserve up to six passes.
The Smithsonian reopened the National Zoo and the National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. on July 24. On Aug. 17, the Smithsonian reopened its gardens. The other Smithsonian museums remain temporarily closed to the public.
