Forum Discusses Best Practices to Connect with Youth (PHOTOS)
Connecting with the youth in Montgomery County is why dozens of mentors, volunteers and youth development professionals gathered at the Universities at Shady Grove early Monday.
The Montgomery County Collaboration Council held its annual community of practice and mentoring forum for youth development practitioners.
“Young people have a lot to contribute to Montgomery County but they can’t contribute unless someone is investing in them,” Elaine Johnson, community of practice director for the Montgomery County Collaboration Council said.
According to Johnson, this annual forum is to help fill the gap with people working with youth and networking with other organizations to learn best practices.
Workshops offered during the seminar included working with trauma within immigrant youth, making connections with disconnected youth and facilitating youth groups for success.
“This event is so important because young people in Montgomery County deserve the best of adults who can serve them,” Johnson said. “The young people in Montgomery County need adults who have made a commitment to work with them and who come with the right skills and come with the right knowledge to help young people grow.”
