Former Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Beating Death of Puppy

A former Baltimore City police officer pleaded guilty Aug. 27 to killing his girlfriend’s puppy in her Silver Spring home and texting her a picture of the lifeless dog.

Alec Eugene Taylor, 28, of Hyattsville pleaded guilty to one count of felony aggravated animal cruelty. He is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Oct. 8 and faces up to three years in jail and a $5,000 fine.

According to the police report, Taylor beat the 7-month-old Jack Russell Terrier with a mop because the dog named Rocko defecated on the rug. He allegedly texted a photo of the beaten dog to his girlfriend. He then threw the dog in a dumpster, and later pulled its body out and put it into a shoebox at his girlfriend’s request. The girlfriend buried the dog in a local park. Two days later she reported the incident to police who exhumed the dog’s body.

A necropsy was conducted on Feb. 28 that found the likely immediate cause of death as acute hemorrhagic shock likely due to blood loss from liver damage caused by blunt force trauma shortly before death, according to the police report.
