Food, Music and Magic Shows, ‘Taste the World’ Brings Hundreds to Silver Spring (PHOTOS)

The annual Taste the World in Fenton Village, a restaurant crawl event, where visitors ended up tasting the world right at the heart of downtown Silver Spring.

Taste The WorldThe annual event, held on May 3, brought hundreds of people to support the local business in the community and have the chance to try a taste of the diverse ethnic restaurants that are part of the area.

“This is, I’m ashamed to say, my very first time at taste the world, there are a lot of restaurants here that I heard of, but there are a lot of new places that I haven’t heard before, and I’m excited to get the chance to try them for the first time,” said Dan Reed, Silver Spring resident and the author behind Just Up The Pike.

Visitors travel from restaurant to restaurant and for $2, $3, $4 or $5 can sample appetizers and tasting plates.

According to a news release, instead of browsing vendors in one central place, participants actually walk the community at their own pace and enter the restaurants to enjoy the food and the authentic atmosphere.

“This is the fifth annual and such as every year is a little different, is actually bigger and this year certainly the biggest yet with four entry points … It’s really not the number of people who come to the actual event is the imprint that the event leaves. … This Fenton Village area is really growing with new restaurants opening almost every week,” Reemberto Rodriguez, director of the Silver Spring Regional Center.

Taste The WorldThis year the event featured 27 restaurants, free music, magic shows, theatrical performances and meditation.

The participants at this year’s restaurant crawl were Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant, The Big Greek Café, Fenton Café, Fire Station 1 Restaurant, Ghar-E-Kabob, The Greek Place, Jackie’s Restaurant, Kaldi’s Coffee Bar, Kefa Café, La Madeleine Country French Café , Langano Ethiopian Restaurant, Lesaac Ethiopian Café , Lotus Café, and Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant.
