Food Drive A Success

The Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County (CVC-MC) collected 4,491 pounds of food for Manna Food Center on Saturday, October 27. This volunteer opportunity was a part of the 26th Annual Community Service Day in Montgomery County. Community Service Day is a day to inspire people in the community to volunteer and give back.

Ten CVC-MC Members handed a list of needed items to shoppers as they entered the store and collected items filling tons of shopping carts at the Flower Hill Giant in Gaithersburg and the Georgetown Square Giant in Bethesda. Items such as beans, rice, macaroni & cheese, tuna fish, bottled water, pasta, juice boxes and more were then donated food to Manna Food Center – a local food bank that strives to eliminate hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education and advocacy.

“Your stores did much better than the average,” said Minerva Delgado, Manna Food Center Executive Director. “Our donations were hard hit by the storm. The store on Old Georgetown Road collected 3,194 pounds! This was the highest total of any store. The store on Flower Hill Way collected 1,297 pounds.”
