Floreen Talks Blizzard, DLC, Watkins Mill Interchange and More at Weekly Briefing (VIDEO)

The Blizzard of 2016 was the hot topic at Montgomery County Council President Nancy Floreen’s weekly briefing on Feb. 1st.    Floreen said she has requested that executive staff from all county departments involved in storm operations participate in a special session with Councilmembers on Feb. 9th. As for the cost of the storm, Floreen said historically snow removal costs the county about one million dollars an inch. It’s too early to know how much this storm cleanup will cost, she said.

Other topics discussed at today’s Council President briefing included the departure of Department of Liquor Control (DLC) director George Griffin, the future of the Watkins Mill Road Interchange and more. You can watch the briefing in its entirety, below:

“I want to express my deep appreciation to the men and women who have worked so hard throughout the storm and cleanup to get us back on track. Many Department of Transportation, Emergency Management, Health and Human Services and MC-311 employees, as well as police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and many other professionals have worked excruciatingly long shifts with virtually no time off. These are truly the unsung heroes of this historic storm.”
