Flags for Our Heroes Exhibit on Display in Gaithersburg for Memorial Day Weekend (VIDEO)
More than 750 flags are flying in a field of honor at Bohrer Park in the city of Gaithersburg this Memorial Day weekend.
It is the fourth year for the “Flags for our Heroes” exhibit. This red, white and blue display of 8-foot flags is hosted by the Rotary Club of Montgomery Village and the Gaithersburg Rotary Club.
Passersby come from near and far to experience the moving display. Many take photos to post on social media while others find it is a place of reflection for the heroes in their lives.
On Friday afternoon, Clarksburg residents Dalia Castro and her son Francisco Ducos Castro stopped by the event to take photos with their dog, Layla. College Park resident John Hampton said he saw the flags while picking up his daughter at Gaithersburg High School. He was so impressed with the display from afar that he also wanted to get up close take a photo. Also on Friday afternoon, a family of three enjoyed a picnic lunch at the field with the flags as a backdrop.
Organizers said the patriotic display is even more striking at night when it is illuminated by lights.
The official opening ceremony for the display is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday.
