Here’s a quick look at five things you need to know today, March 18, in Montgomery County.

1.Montgomery County public schools are opening on time today and superintendent Dr. Joshua Starr is holding a student Town Hall meeting at Watkins Mill High School.

2. The Montgomery County Council is meeting today and on the agenda: a report by the Office of Legislative Oversight about construction change orders, protecting trees, the Capital Improvements Program, snow removal operations and MC311.

3. The Muppets latest movie comes out later this week but did you know a Montgomery County resident has written a bestselling biography of Muppets creator Jim Henson? Damascus resident and biographer Brian Jay Jones will be talking about his book at the Gaithersburg Library next month.

4. Developers will hold a meeting in Clarksburg tonight to talk about their Town Center plans.

5. Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett has released his nearly $5 billion recommended operating budget and we have posted reaction from Councilmembers and others on our website. We hope you will let us know what you think about the budget plan as well.
