Five Things to Know Today, Nov. 5, in Montgomery County

Here are 5+ things to know today, Nov. 5, in Montgomery County, following Election Day:

1. Republican Larry Hogan is the Governor-elect of Maryland in a victory that some are calling the biggest upset in the country. Hogan has scheduled a 11 a.m. news conference at the Westin Hotel in Annapolis to talk about his victory.

2. County Executive Ike Leggett has won a new term. In addition, County Council incumbents Roger Berliner (District 1), Marc Elrich (At-Large), Nancy Floreen (At-Large), George Leventhal (At-Large), Nancy Navarro (District 4), Craig Rice (District 2) and Hans Riemer (At-Large) all won reelection in their races. The Democrats are joined by Council newcomers Sidney Katz (District 3) and Tom Hucker (District 5) who both ran unopposed in their respective races on the Nov. 4 ballot.

3. In the school board races, the incumbents all won reelection: Judith Docca, Michael Durso and Patricia O’Neill. Newcomer Jill Ortman-Fouse will also join the BOE after winning a tight race against Shebra Evans.

4. Montgomery County resident Peter Franchot has won reelection as the state’s Comptroller and Montgomery County resident Brian Frosh will become the state’s next Attorney General.
