1. The U.S. flag will be flown at half staff from now until sunset on Thursday by order of President Obama as a mark of respect for the victims of the attacks in Paris. Meanwhile,  a memorial outside the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. continues to grow.

2. Registration opens for winter classes today thru the county’s Department of Recreation. Another recreation reminder: the White Oak Community Center’s gym is closed today – Thursday because its floor is being refinished.

3. Montgomery County Council President George Leventhal is expected to discuss his recent trip to El Salvador, among other topics, at his weekly briefing with reporters today.

4. It’s Cathy Drzyzgula Day in the City of Gaithersburg. Drzyzgula, a former City Councilmember, is being celebrated by Gaithersburg officials at a reception tonight at City Hall.

5. The Hornets are spirit champions! Congratulations to Damascus High School’s cheer squad for winning the county’s Division 1 cheer competition on Saturday.
