Here are five things to know today, May 1, in Montgomery County:

1. County government: Council President Roger Berliner has his regular news briefing at 11:30 a.m. And the Montgomery College budget gets scrutinized by the County Council’s Education Committee at 2 p.m. as part of the council’s review of County Executive Ike Leggett’s fiscal 2018 spending plan.

2. March to halt deportations: Tens of thousands of people will march in Washington to demand an end to President  Donald Trump’s mass deportation policies.

3. Water works:  Early commuters around White Oak might see some lane closures as the Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission does preventive maintenance work on a 60-inch water main under New Hampshire Avenue and Adelphi Road. The work should go on all week from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

4. District 16 meeting: The District 16 delegation meets at 6:30 p.m.

5. Found money: New county PTA President Lynne Harris said the organization received $10,000 in unexpected deposits, the latest twist in the PTA’s missing funds.
