UPDATED Here are five things to know today, March 14, in Montgomery County:

1. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow, sleet and freezing rain until 2 p.m. in Montgomery County. The Winter Storm Warning has been canceled. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has declared a state of emergency because of the snowstorm.

2. Montgomery County public schools are closed today.

3. A snow emergency remains in effect until midnight. Free parking is available in county garages until that time.

4. Shovel your sidewalks. It’s the law in Montgomery County.
