1. No school for MCPS students today. Fourth district police officers invite Wheaton area youth to check out their ‘Hot Cocoa with a Cop‘ event.

2. The 21st Annual Polar Bear Plunge to raise funds for Special Olympics Maryland begins today at Sandy Point State Park. Good luck to the Rockville City Police Department team and a Montgomery County Police team.

3. Registration for spring break and summer camps at Glen Echo opens Saturday, Jan. 28.

4. Numerous events are planned to celebrate Library Lovers Month. The kickoff event features Groovy Nate tomorrow at  Twinbrook Library.

5. The Women’s Legislative Briefing is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 29 at The Universities at Shady Grove.

  • Beyond the Rose is local author Sharon Allen Gilder’s new book. Meet her at a book signing at Pinky & Pepe’s Grape Escape in Kentlands at 7 p.m. tonight.
  • The 10th Annual Montgomery History Conference is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Germantown campus of Montgomery College.
  • The county MC311 phone and online system will close early Friday at 5:15 p.m. for a system upgrade. The online system will be available Saturday at noon. The phone center will reopen Monday at 7 a.m.
