1. A Blizzard Warning goes into effect at 3 p.m. today in Montgomery County. Residents should prepare for heavy snow and high winds.

2. Schools are closed today because of the weather conditions. Federal Government offices are closing at noon today.

3. Metro plans to suspend its rail service later tonight because of the winter storm.

4. Montgomery County has declared a snow emergency, effective at 3 p.m., which means it is important to get your cars off the street. County Executive Ike Leggett and senior transportation officials discussed snow plow operations at a news briefing yesterday in front of the county’s Salt Barn. Leggett said the county’s first priority is to clear primary and secondary roads. You can track snow clearing operations this weekend, here.

5. If your power goes out,  it’s important to report the outage to your power company.

  • Montgomery Community Media’s offices are closing at noon today and will remain closed thru the weekend because of the weather conditions.
