Five Things to Know Today, Jan. 22, in Montgomery County

fivethingsyouneedtoknowMaryland has a new governor. Governor Larry Hogan is the state’s 62nd governor. Here are five more things to know today, Jan. 22, in Montgomery County:

1.  A big crowd is expected for today’s Small Business University networking breakfast at MCM’s studios. Ken Smith is the keynote speaker and you can watch his presentation streamed live here beginning at 8 a.m.

2. Two of the 40 Intel Science Talent Search finalists are from Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).They are the only finalists from the state of Maryland.

3. MCPS will hold a public hearing on bell times today.

4. The Montgomery County Council’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee will hold a 7:30 p.m. public hearing tonight on proposed Bill 56-14 that prohibits the use of electronic cigarettes in public places where traditional tobacco smoking is prohibited. The Council will also hold a 7:15 p.m. public hearing today on the Sandy Spring Rural Village Plan.

5. It’s a busy day for County Executive Ike Leggett. He will hold a news briefing at noon today to discuss new Human Trafficking legislation and he is holding his fourth budget forum tonight.
