Here are your five things to know today, Jan. 19, in Montgomery County:
1. Bundle up: It’s dangerously cold outside, and the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory that doesn’t expire until noon today. In other words, don’t leave the house without a coat, scarf, hat and gloves.
2. Montgomery County Councilmembers Roger Berliner, Marc Elrich and Hans Riemer are expected to introduce a resolution today calling on county officials to adopt a Vision Zero Action Plan to end all traffic-related deaths. The County would be joining the Vision Zero Network, a group of cities and towns committed to reducing the deaths of pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.
3. Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett has transmitted the appointment of Al Roshdieh as the director of the Department of Transportation (DOT). Roshdieh is the DOT’s current interim director. Leggett’s appointment must be confirmed by the County Council, and an interview to discuss that appointment is at the top of the Council’s agenda today.
4. Speaking of transportation, the city of Rockville is holding a community meeting tonight at St. Raphael’s Church Library to discuss the extension of a shared use path along Falls Road.
5. Summer camp registration opens today in Montgomery County. You can also register for summer camps in the city of Rockville beginning today.
