Here are five things to know today, Feb. 15, in Montgomery County:

1. Curious about who’s running for office in 2018? Candidates will begin filing paperwork on Feb. 28.

2. The Montgomery County Board of Education approved the superintendent’s operating budget proposal on Tuesday. The spending plan now goes to County Executive Ike Leggett and the County Council. Meanwhile, the school board has selected four possible names for the future Bethesda-Chevy Chase Middle School No. 2 in Kensington.

3. Wednesday night, in the Northwest High School cafeteria, County Council Education Committee Chair Craig Rice, Schools Superintendent Jack Smith and Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard will start their series of public forums on the programs and budgets of the county’s public school system and its community college.

4. Round House Theatre in Silver Spring continues its run of “Caroline, or Change,” a musical set in the Civil Right Movement. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 to $60. Click here for more information.

5. Author and preservationist Clare Lise Kelly of the Montgomery County Planning Department discusses 20th Century design in county as she discusses her book, “Montgomery Modern: Modern Architecture in Montgomery County, 1930-1979.” The event will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Macy’s home store in Montgomery Mall.
