1. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Comptroller Peter Franchot are scheduled to make a “major announcement” about the state public school calendar today.
2. It’s International Overdose Awareness Day. A Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at Justice Plaza at Montgomery County Circuit Court Rockville tonight.
3. The Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture commissioned a quilt for the 150th anniversary of emancipation in Maryland. The Sesquicentennial 1864 Maryland Slave Emancipation Quilt, designed by Joan Gaither is currently being displayed at the Red Brick Courthouse. Gaither will discuss the creation of the quilt tonight at the courthouse.
4. El Golfo restaurant in Silver Spring in partnership with Carpe Diem Arts and county organizations is hosting a benefit for those affected by the Flower Branch Apartments explosion tonight.
5. John F. Kennedy High School teacher Michael Williams is a finalist for the 2016-2017 Maryland Teacher of the Year.
