Here are five things to know today, Aug. 22, in Montgomery County:

1. Open Lab –  Bring your questions about downloadable e-books and audiobooks, online job applications, e-mail, Word, Internet use, and library apps at the Gaithersburg Library at 10 a.m.

2. Energy Express Workshop – for kids age 8 to 12 years old at Chevy Chase Library at 11 a.m. and again at Long Branch Library at 2 p.m. Registration required.

3. Outdoor pools in the county have shorter hours.

4. School Calendar – Just two weeks to the first day of school in the county, September 5. The school calendar is available here.

5. Police Officer Candidate open through Friday.

6. And in case you missed it, more than 2,500 people viewed the solar eclipse in Gaithersburg on Monday.
