Five Things to Know Today, Aug. 21, in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Aug. 21, in Montgomery County:

1. Solar Eclipse: Today is the day!! More than 300 million people in the United States potentially could directly view the solar eclipse, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). We’ll have total coverage on our channels (19, 21 and HD 995 ) from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

2. Raise Your Voice in Song: Washington Revels, a performing arts group in Silver Spring, will celebrate National American Artist Appreciation Month and students going back to school in its monthly “Community Sing” program. The event will be held at the Washington Revels Studio Space, 531 Dale Drive in Silver Spring and begins at 6:30 p.m.

3. U.S. Citizenship Interview Help: Staff from Montgomery College is helping individuals who applied for U.S. Citizenship with their naturalization interview. Today’s session will be held at Montgomery County Public Libraries’ Silver Spring branch and begins at 10 a.m. Can’t make it? 4.  Wheaton Indoor Tennis Closed: Annual maintenance begins at Wheaton Indoor Tennis so the facility will be closed from Aug. 21 through Aug. 27.  Activities will resume on Aug. 28.

5. Monday Nights at the Movies: Montgomery County Public Libraries will be showing Kung Fu Panda 3 for its Monday Nights at Movies event.  The showing begins at 6 p.m.
