Five Things to Know for Sept. 8 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Sept. 8, in Montgomery County:

1. Hurricane Harvey Relief Effort: The Rockville Fire Department and Rockville City Police are accepting donations for Hurricane Harvey victims from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Donations will be accepted at Saint Mary’s Church, 520 Veirs Mill Road in Rockville

2. Damascus Community Fair: The Damascus Community Fair kicks off today at 4 p.m. at the Damascus Fire Department Activity Center, 10211 Lewis Drive in Damascus.

3. Pop-Up Parks: Montgomery Parks will host Pop-Up Recess at Fairview Road Urban Park in Silver Spring from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

4. Emergency Preparedness for Businesses: Business owners will have the chance to learn how to prepare for a disaster. The seminar will take place at 1300 Quince Orchard Blvd in Gaithersburg and begins at 9 a.m. The training is free.

5. Deer Archery Season Opens Statewide: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has announces that archery hunting for white-tailed and sika deer opens statewide Sept. 8 and continues through Jan. 31.
