Five Things to Know for Sept. 18 in Montgomery County

Here are five things you need to know today, Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Montgomery County:

1. Introduction of  Bills: Four new bills are expected to be introduced during the Montgomery County Council’s session today.

2. Coffee with a CopMontgomery County Police Department’s First District will host “coffee with a cop” from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Twinbrook McDonalds, located at 2101 Veirs Mill Road in Rockville.

3. Street Smart Self Defense Class: Police Officer Sally Cottrell-Parks of Webfitwellness will host a free self defense class in Silver Spring.  The class begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at Healthy Steps Internal Medicine, located at 10750 Columbia Pike, Suite 401, in Silver Spring.

4. Yom Kippur: Yom Kippur, also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services

5. Read to a Dog: Montgomery County Public Libraries will host “read to a dog” for school-aged children from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Details here.
