Five Things to Know for Sept. 14 in Montgomery County

Here are five things you need to know today, Friday, Sept. 14, in Montgomery County:

1. Hurricane Florence: The hurricane is making landfall near Wilmington and Morehead City in North Carolina according to the National Hurricane Center at 5 a.m.

2. Firefighter Funeral: A memorial service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral at 10 a.m. for retired Fire Chief James Seavey, Sr. who served as Chief of the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department from 1992 to 2017.

3. Small Press Expo: The annual SPX conference for independent comics, cartooning and graphic novels takes place at the Marriott Bethesda North Conference Center with events Sept. 14, 15 and 16.

4. Friday Night Football: MCM will cover the Churchill at Gaithersburg game tonight with kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
