Five Things to Know for Sept. 13 in Montgomery County

Here are five things you need to know today, Thursday, Sept. 13, in Montgomery County:

1. Hurricane Florence:  The National Hurricane Center said that Hurricane Florence should make landfall in the Carolinas sometime Friday. FOX5’s Sue Palka expects Montgomery County to see rain from the hurricane this weekend.

2. Flu Vaccine Clinic: Harris Teeter pharmacy is sponsoring a flu vaccination clinic for seniors today at the Holiday Park Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

3. Talk with Ike Leggett: Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will have another of his “virtual” town hall meetings from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Residents are invited to submit questions directly to Leggett before and during the chat online at Live Discussion with Ike Leggett.

4. Maryland Hispanic Gala: In its sixth year, the gala awards scholarships to qulifying students from diverse communities throughout the State of Maryland. The gala will be held tonight at The Fillmore Silver Spring from 7 to 11 p.m.

5. AFI Latin American Film Festival: Now in its 29th year, the festival features films from Latin America, Spain and Portugal at the AFI Silver Theatre from Sept. 13 to Oct. 3.

And one more thing: The Greenridge Baptist Church in Boyds is holding an event to learn about packing winter holiday shoeboxes for children in need from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
