Five Things to Know for Oct. 26 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Oct. 26, in Montgomery County, Maryland:

1. Yappy Hour: Enjoy music and food at Yappy Hour sponsored by Montgomery Parks and the Bethesda Urban Partnership. The pop-up dog park will consist of a small dog area and a large dog enclosure area for well-socialized dogs.

2. What’s Going on in Montgomery County?: The Woman’s Democratic Club of Montgomery County will host a forum with Montgomery County Councilmember Nancy Floreen and Casey Anderson, Chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board, for residents to learn about current economic development, housing, and demographic trends in the county.

3. Compassionate Response: St. Francis of Assisi in partnership with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington will discuss the opioid epidemic during a community forum and ways the community and family members of those affected can compassionately address the national epidemic.

4. Dockless Bikeshare Begins: The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has signed agreements with two more dockless bikeshare companies, Ofo and Limebike, to conduct a demonstration project in Silver Spring at no cost to the County. Montgomery County is the first suburban jurisdiction in the U.S. to have a dockless bike share system.

5. Burial Sites: The Montgomery County Council’s Planning, Housing, and Economic Development (PHED) committee  will discuss legislation that would require the County Planning Board to establish and maintain an inventory of burial sites in the county. Currently, Montgomery County has no explicit local policy governing either archaeological resources or burial sites.
