Five Things to Know for Oct. 24 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, Oct. 24, in Montgomery County, Maryland:

1. Toll Lanes for I-270 and I-495?: To help alleviate traffic congestion, Governor Larry Hogan announced a $9 billion Traffic Relief Plan which consists of widening I-270 and I-495 in Montgomery County to accommodate four new lanes. The T & E Committee is expected to discuss details of the plan with Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn.

2. Community Budget Forum:  The Department of Health and Human Services is holding a community forum to discuss the Fiscal Year 2019 operating budget with residents to identify services that will help ensure the department’s goal of building a safe, healthy and strong community.

3. Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Area Minor Master Plan: Residents are invited to attend a public hearing to discuss the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Area Minor Master Plan. The Montgomery County Council will host the hearing which will take place in the Third Floor Council Conference Room, 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville. The hearing begins at 7:30 p.m.

4. Bicycle Plan: A community meeting will be held at Newport Mill Middle School where residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback on short-term strategies to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety on Veirs Mill Road.
