Thursday’s rundown of five things to know today in Montgomery County:

1. Council work: The Health & Human Services (HHS) and the Government Operations (GO) committees meet today to receive updates on the county employee wellness program, capital improvement program, ethics regulations, and the Cable Television and Communications Plan . Watch live, here.

2. Coffee With a Cop: From 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., officers from the Germantown police district will be meeting members of the public at the Starbucks at 19724 Germantown Road. Montgomery Village police district officers will be meeting the public from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Target Starbucks at 25 Grand Corner Avenue in Gaithersburg.

3. B-CC Community Meeting on Education: The Board of Education members meet with parents, students, and staff from the schools that make up the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Cluster. See the agenda, here.

4. Metros championships: The Metros swimming and diving competition takes place at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center today through Saturday. The swim center resumes normal operations on Sunday, Feb. 11.

 

5. Facebook Live preview: Master storyteller and Griot, the Honorable Baba-C, talks about Saturday’s Black History Month program titled A Long Way from Home at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park. Today’s Facebook Live preview starts at 11:30 a.m.

 

And one more thing, the African Union Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, is the keynote speaker at the Black History and Heritage event being held at Silver Spring Library tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
