1. Schools open two hours late: Montgomery County Public Schools open two hours late today because of the cold. The schools will reevaluate by 7 a.m. to determine if closure of schools is necessary.

2. Bundle up: It’s going to be a cold Friday. The National Weather Service predicts high temps to be in the teens. High winds and below freezing temperatures are expected to drive windchill ranges from 5 below zero to 15 below zero. Dress in layers to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Bring pets and livestock indoors for their safety.

3. Coffee with a Cop: In Rockville, the police department is hosting Coffee with a Cop, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at The Coffee Bean on East Gude Drive. This is an event where Rockville residents can meet their neighborhood police officers.

4. Deer hunting season reopens: The winter firearm deer hunting season opens Jan. 5 in the County. Hunters with a valid license may use firearms to hunt sika and white-tailed deer during this period.

5. Ride on route changes: Schedule changes to 13 bus routes take effect on Sunday, Jan. 7.
