Five Things to Know for July 23 in Montgomery County

Here are five things you need to know for Monday, July 23, in Montgomery County:

1. Council Work: The Montgomery County Council has a busy day of committee work. The Public Safety Committee, meeting at 9:25 a.m., will get an update on crime statistics. The Education Committee, meeting at 1:55 p.m., will hear from the school system on dual-language programs. And the planning committee will take up farm alcohol production at 2:55 p.m. All meetings will be in the Council Office Building.

2. Municipal Monday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council take up herbicide and pesticide use on city properties.

3. Lighten Your Load: Swap out incandescent bulbs or compact fluorescent lights for up to three money-saving LED lights. The event takes place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Germantown Safeway at 19718 Germantown Road.

4. Media Monday: Montgomery College holds a news conference at 10 a.m. about its upcoming Salvador-American Festival. And Council President Hans Riemer meets the media at 11 a.m.
