Five Things to Know for Aug. 10 in Montgomery County
Here are five things you need to know for Friday, Aug. 10, in Montgomery County:
1. Human Trafficking: Governor Larry Hogan joined officials in Rockville Thursday, Aug. 9, to announce increase efforts to combat human trafficking in the state.
2. Fair Day: The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair opens at 3 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Gaithersburg and runs through Saturday, Aug. 18. Check out County Cable Montgomery’s scavenger hunt for a chance to win prizes.
3. AFI Screening of Josiah: The Montgomery Parks Foundation and AFI Silver Theatre present a screening of the documentary film “Josiah” followed by a question and answer session with filmmaker Jared Brock and Catherine Leggett.
4. Community Drum Circle: The Friends of Quince Orchard Library is hosting a family-friendly drum circle led by Katy Gaughan from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the library. No experience is necessary. Drums are provided or bring your own. Register by 10 a.m., here.
5. Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week: Tax-Free week starts Sunday and continues through Saturday, Aug. 18.
And one more thing: Today is the two year anniversary of the fatal explosion and fire at the Flower Branch Apartments in Silver Spring. A 7:30 p.m. vigil is planned.
