Five Things to Know for April 4 in Montgomery County
Here are five things to know today, Wednesday, April 4 in Montgomery County:
1. Wind Advisory: The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today with wind gusts up to 50 mph expected.
2. A Somber Anniversary: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated 50 years ago on April 5, 1968 in Memphis. The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis and The King Center in Atlanta have called for a global bell ringing at 7:01 p.m. ET to commemorate his life.
3. US 29 BRT Open House: MCDOT will host an informational session on the Bus Rapid Transit system along US 29 at the White Oak Community Center from 6;30 to 8:30 p.m.
4. Takoma Junction Redevelopment: Neighborhood Development Company will present a draft site plan for the redevelopment of the lot at Takoma Junction at the Takoma Park City Council Meeting.
5. 2nd Annual EPIC Awards: Three weeks from today, Montgomery Community Media will host the 2nd Annual EPIC Awards at The Fillmore. Join us April 25 and show your support for community media!
One last thing … The Washington region takes part in a wireless alert system test tomorrow between 10 and 11 a.m. The April 5 alert will trigger a loud (somewhat annoying) noise and will cause cell phones and other mobile devices to vibrate. Both the loud audio signal and vibration will be repeated twice, while displaying the text-like message on cell phones and mobile devices.
