Five Things to Know for April 19 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know for Thursday, April 19, in Montgomery County:

1. MCPS Teacher of the Year: Kristen Kane, a kindergarten and first grade teacher at Forest Knolls Elementary School, was named MCPS 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year during the annual Champions for Children Awards Celebration.

2. Traffic Relief Plan: The Maryland State Highway Administration will hold an open house at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the public to comment on the efforts to reduce congestion on I-270 and the Capital Beltway.

3.Dream Youth Leadership Program: Montgomery Recreation will host a series of free workshops for teens that focus on leadership, resume writing, college preparation, public speaking, interview techniques, and community service. Tonight’s meeting will be held at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center in Burtonsville. Register online by clicking here. 

4. Free Child Safety Seat Inspection: Fitzgerald Auto Mall’s Certified Passenger Safety Technicians have teamed up with Safe Kids Worldwide, Safe Kids Montgomery County Coalition, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue and the Montgomery County Police Department to ensure every child’s safety seat is up to date with safety recalls and installed correctly. Inspections will be held at 5501 Nicholson Lane in Rockville between 10:00 a.m and 12:00 p.m.  No appointment is necessary.

5. County Executive Candidate Forum: The Greater Silver Spring Democratic Club will host a Montgomery County Executive Candidates Forum from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Takoma Park Middle School, 7611 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. The forum will be moderated by local news reporter Bruce DePuyt.
