Five Things to Know for April 16 in Montgomery County

Update: The Maryland Department of Planning listening session meeting takes place from 7 to 9 p.m.

Here are five things to know for Monday, April 16, in Montgomery County:

1. Listen Up: The Maryland Department of Planning has scheduled a listening session to hear what the community thinks should be the state’s objectives for growing responsibly. The session takes place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Park and Planning Headquarters, 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring. For more information, visit here.

2. Working for a Living: The 50+ Employment Expo takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Rd, Rockville. The keynote speaker will be Leon Harris. For more information, visit here. And for a list of exhibitors, visit here.

3. Give Food, Ride Free: Ride On bus passengers can help families in need this week by providing nonperishable food for the 31st annual “Give and Ride” food drive. Ride On will collect donations through Saturday, April 21.

4. Don’t Be Cruel: The Montgomery County Council Public Safety Committee considers new anti-cruelty regulations for pets at its 10 a.m. meeting in the Third Floor Conference Room of the County Office Building. The new regs include provisions for extreme weather, for what’s considered adequate housing during cold weather and for reducing the time a dog can be tethered. You can see the proposals here.

5. The Paws That Refresh: Gaithersburg is taking registrations for Sunday’s Paws in the Park, which raises money for the Montgomery County Humane Society. For pupdates, check here.

One last thing … Single-lane closures are planned through Friday, April 20, on Rockville Pike between Woodmont Avenue and Chestnut Street. The lane closures will take place on weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather and work conditions permitting.
