Washington Nationals Opening Day (VIDEO)

Spring is here, and that means baseball season is too. As the Washington Nationals get ready for a promising season, Nats fans in Montgomery County shared their excitement before the home opener against the New York Mets. The fans were talking about the players to watch this season and the ultimate goal — to win a World Series.

“There’s something exciting about opening day. I’ve been to opening days on about four to six stadiums including the original Yankee Stadium,” said Germantown resident Art Skillman.

“A lot of players are on the disabled list. So they’re probably not gonna play great out of the gate. However, it’s a good chance for the younger players and their replacements to see what they look like,” said Gaithersburg resident David Clark.

The Nats lost their home opener on April 6, 3-1 to the Mets.

There’s more news too. According with its official website, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred announced on April 6 the team was awarded the 2018 All-Star Game. It will be the first All-Star Game to be played in Washington since 1969, when the National League defeated the American League, 9-3, at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium. The 2018 game will be the first in Washington to be hosted by a National League club.
