First Day of June Marks Fewest New COVID-19 Cases Since March 2020

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for June 1

The Maryland Department of Health reported nine new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Tuesday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is 70,930. This is the lowest number of new cases in a 24 hour period since March 19, 2020, when two cases were confirmed in Montgomery County.

There were no new coronavirus-related fatalities in the county Tuesday, so the death toll remains at 1,554.

Monday, 0.95% of the COVID-19 tests done were positive. Compared to Sunday’s rate of 0.92%, this is an increase of 0.03 The county’s positivity rate is lower than 22 of the other 24 jurisdictions.

Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services clinics are currently vaccinating residents ages 12 and older. County residents may register for an appointment at any of the county-run clinics or the Germantown mass vaccination site online.

According to Montgomery County health officials, 52.6% of the county’s residents are fully vaccinated for COVID-19; 60.7% have received their first dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna two-dose vaccine. County residents vaccinated outside Maryland are not included in these figures.

Montgomery County has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases (70,930) and deaths (1,554). Baltimore County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities deaths (1,616) and the third-highest number of cases (65,643). Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 85,079 cases and the third-highest number of deaths (1,535).

Somerset County on the Eastern Shore has the highest cases per capita at 102 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 99.5 cases per 1,000 residents.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics for June 1

Tuesday, the state recorded 101 new infections, bringing the state’s cumulative case count to 459,995.

336 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 across the state, which is the lowest number since October of last year.

Maryland recorded two new coronavirus-related fatalities Tuesday bringing the death toll to 9,404.

The state reported 1.42% of the COVID-19 tests from Monday were positive. This is a decrease of 0.05 from Sunday’s rate of 1.47% and is the lowest positivity rate since the pandemic began in March of last year.

All Marylanders ages 12 and older are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine at the state's mass vaccination sites. Appointments are available online at covidvax.maryland.gov or by calling the state's COVID-19 vaccination support center at 1-865-MC-GOVAX. All of the state's mass vaccination sites are accepting walkups.

According to the Maryland Department of Health, 44.3% of the state's residents have received two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; and 3.9% have received the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
