First Day Maryland COVID-19 Hospitalizations Fall Below 400, Montgomery Testing Positivity Rate at 5.15%

Wednesday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 15,400 cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 68 from the 15,332 cases reported Tuesday.
714 county residents have died from COVID-19 since the first case in March.
More Montgomery County residents have died due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 676 residents, the second-highest number in the state.
The positivity rate of 5.15% reported Wednesday is the fifth-highest in the state, behind Baltimore City (5.27%), Charles (5.99%), Queen Anne’s (6.53%), and Prince George’s (7.41%). Montgomery County’s positivity rate has remained below 6% for the seventh straight day.
Maryland COVID-19 Statistics
As of Wednesday morning, there have been 70,861 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 465 in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 3,149 Marylanders, nine since Tuesday.
Currently, 398 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, six fewer than Tuesday. Of those patients, 136 are in intensive care, nine less than Tuesday. This is the first day the number of patients hospitalized in Maryland for COVID-19 has fallen below 400.
The state department of health reported a testing positivity rate of 4.61% Tuesday. This is an increase of 0.08% from Tuesday’s rate of 4.53% and is the 13th day the rate remained below 5%.
Statewide, a total of 20,288 cases and 1,270 deaths involve the state’s African American community.
Maryland reports the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths that have occurred in senior living facilities weekly on Wednesday mornings.
The cumulative number of cases increased by 276 since July 1, deaths by 41.
