Deare Marquise Denny, 26, of Hyattsville, turned himself in to police in Prince George’s County about 8:30 p.m. after an Amber Alert was issued for the missing child. The infant was with Denny and reunited with her mother, police said.

Tuesday at about 3:15 p.m., Denny forcefully took his child, 5-month-old Drew Denny, from her mother’s home in the 19000 block of Hempstone Avenue in Poolesville. Deare Denny punched the child’s mother in the face and then grabbed and squeezed the mother’s throat with his hands, causing her to momentarily lose consciousness, according to a police release. Denny took the child from the home and placed the child in his car which police said had no child seat. Denny then produced a handgun and pointed it at the child’s mother, stating, “Bitch, I will kill you,” according to the police account.

Denny is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, possession of a handgun in a vehicle, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/crime of violence, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, abduction by a relative, and hiding a child within the state. Denny was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
