Fatal Pedestrian Accident in White Oak

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in White Oak last night.

On Thursday, February 7, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Montgomery County police officers responded to Route 29 and Oak Leaf Drive for a pedestrian struck.

Arriving officers found a male subject, deceased in the southbound lanes of Route 29.

The 43-year-old female driver of the vehicle, a gray Nissan Ultima, remained on the scene and cooperated with officers.

According to police, the preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of the Nissan was southbound on Route 29, approaching the Oak Leaf Drive intersection.  Witnesses told police that the male pedestrian started to cross the southbound lanes from the center median, tripped while crossing the southbound lanes, and was struck by the Nissan.    The identity of the driver will be confirmed later today.  The pedestrian will be identified after next-of-kin has been notified.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who has information about this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773.6620.  Callers may remain anonymous.
