Faith Leaders To Talk Community Issues at a Town Hall Meeting in Rockville

Members of the Montgomery County Office of Community Partnerships and the Montgomery County Council are scheduled to host a town hall meeting for faith Community leaders to find out what issues most concerns residents.

Montgomery County Council BuildingThe annual meeting will take place on Feb. 26 at the County Council Office Building in Rockville starting at 8 p.m.

“There are few groups of people who know the pulse of their respective communities than leaders of the faith community. Religious organizations have issues that pertain particularly to their needs, but they also see what is of most importance to their members. This meeting will give us an opportunity to hear about a broad range of issues from a special group of people in our County,” said Montgomery County Council President Leventhal.

According to a press release, it is estimated that more than 3,000 faith community leaders representing a variety of religions living in Montgomery County. The town hall meeting is an opportunity for these leaders to ask questions and share with Montgomery County Councilmemnbers specific issues they come across in their community.

Topics expected to be discussed during the meeting are land use issues, locations for houses of worship and zoning, observance of religious holidays, regulation restricting property tax exemption for religious use, programs for low-income residents, and the relationship between police and the community.

“What a compliment for leaders of faith communities to be invited by the County Council to articulate their needs and interests. I know they are looking forward to sharing their thoughts with the Councilmembers,” said Mansfield Kaseman, the County’s Interfaith Community Liaison.

Attendees must RSVP by calling 240-777-7931. The meeting will be broadcast live on County Cable Montgomery (CCM) on cable channel 6 on Comcast, and RCN Channel 30 on Verizon.
