Expo Brings ‘All Things Nigerian’ to Silver Spring
Nigerian culture, fashion, cuisine, literature and entertainment headlines Veterans Plaza on May 26, at the area’s first “All Things Nigerian” festival in Silver Spring.
All Things Nigeria brings a day of ethnic and cultural immersion for the community with a market of products ranging from Nigerian food like Suya, to a book signing by Nigerian author Ugo Agada-Uyah with her debut book, “Omezue, The Complete Achiever.” Health and wellness, as well as beauty products will also be on display.
“Our hope for the expo is to be a event that people look forward to to come and indulge in true Nigerian culture,” said event organizer and creator Tess Uyah. “The directory that is associated with the event will be the go to source of referrals when it comes to Nigerian products and services. We also look to add value to the event by continuing to impact the community.”
The expo is sponsored by the “TopHill” school in Abuja which gave free tuition to several students in Nigeria. The event will also feature a “Bring Our Girls Back” campaign representative at the event to create awareness about the happenings in Nigeria regarding the missing girls from Chibok.
The “All Things Nigerian Expo” was created to establish a platform for product manufacturers with a global view to help propel them to the U.S. market.
Organizers with the event have already started thinking ahead for plans to bring the expo to other states and to spread the word about what the event has to offer to those looking to expand their Nigerian business in the U.S.
“We have already began planning the second edition of the All Things Nigerian Expo in Houston,” Uyah said. “We would like to take this expo to several different cities throughout the states as well as other countries eventually. Our goal is to make the event bigger, with even more vendors, bigger performers, bigger designers, and greater media partnerships.”
