Made in Indonesia Festival Set for October 4 in Silver Spring
Montgomery County residents will have a chance to see on-the-street performances, folk dances, and the best of Indonesia at the fourth Made in Indonesia festival on Oct. 4 in downtown Silver Spring.
The event is produced by Maya Naratama, an Indonesian-native, who said the fair aims to build a cross-cultural relationship between the Indonesian community and other ethnic groups in the area.
“It is also to encourage local Indonesian residents to connect and promote their business, products and services through various vendors from clothes, handy craft, souvenirs and food,” Naratama wrote in an email to MyMCMedia.
Visitors will have a chance to see presentations from different Islands, such as sumatra, and javanese dance and an Indonesian martial arts performance.
“We are also going to have a Batik Fashion Competition where people can join and show their batik collection. Batik is the Indonesian cloth, using wax and dye originates from Java Island. We also name the festival theme, a day with Batik,” Naratama wrote.
The street fair will be held at the Silver Spring Civic Building. For more information, check out the festival’s website here.
