The concept is for about 250,000 square feet of new retail–including a grocer, restaurants, services and shops–and 500-700 new residential units, depending on unit size. About 75 of those units would be townhomes, with the remaining as multifamily, both rental and ownership.

“Equity One meet with a few civic groups, and feedback has been fairly positive,” Westwood spokeswoman Tammy Murphy wrote in an email to MyMcMedia.

The plan calls for several small parks, a community space along with a realignment of Westbard Avenue and Ridgefield Road.

Equity One owns seven properties, including Westwood Shopping Center, accounting for about 22 acres.

The Montgomery County Council approved placement of the Westbard Sector Plan on the Montgomery County Planning Department’s FY15 Work Program to plan for Westbard’s next twenty years. The Montgomery County Planning Staff is scheduled to present preliminary recommendations for the update of that sector plan on March 19.
