Equality Topic of Discussion at Chinese American Town Hall in Potomac

Hundreds of residents came together for the first Chinese American Community Town Hall Meeting at Hoover Middle School in Potomac Saturday evening.

The event was organized by the Chinese American Parent Association of Montgomery County (CAPA-MC) in an effort to get the community more civically engaged.

“We would like to get to know our government officials who are governing us,” said Julie Yang, co chair of CAPA-MC. “We would like to be more involved in the decision making and give more feedback about the needs or the contributions that our community can make.”

Montgomery County Executive, Isiah “Ike” Leggett, also attended the town hall meeting to answer questions from residents. One concern from this community was the feeling of inclusiveness.

“ I think it’s important that all of us are included in the table in deciding the important things that impact our lives like tax, education, transportation and safety” said Yang. “We want to work with everyone out there to make Montgomery County a better place to work and live.”
